Turkish Ersin Pak takes over Allianz Greece and the deal with National Bank - War among insurance companies
The unprecedented entry of insurance companies into banking has already signaled executive shifts.

Turkish Ersin Pak, who succeeds current Allianz Greece Chief Executive Officer Vassilis Christidis on September 1, 2026, will seal and sign the future trajectory of Allianz Greece with National Bank of Greece. The unprecedented entry of insurance companies into banking has already signaled executive shifts, while also shaping the strategic strategy of agency networks.

Four "aces" for insurance companies plus one more – Allianz Greece and Evropi Insurance at the center

The management of Allianz SE expects Ersin Pak, who previously held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Allianz Türkiye, to increase market share in Greece and resolve issues lingering at Allianz following the acquisition of Evropaiki Pisti under Christos Georgakopoulos. At this point, it should be noted that Vassilis Christidis, who is moving to Allianz SE's second-largest market, Italy, elevated Allianz Greece to sixth place in terms of premium production, having managed the most complex integration challenges. Now, regarding future plans between Allianz and National Bank, according to BN information, implementation is expected to gain momentum early next year. Procedures are nearly finalized for both ETE's bancassurance partnership with Allianz and the relevant shareholding structure.

The four aces

Insurance companies will play four additional aces during 2027 alongside Piraeus Bank, Alpha Bank, and Eurobank. Ethniki Insurance with Piraeus Bank is reportedly putting a brake on speculative practices by private hospitals through its new healthcare coverage policy. Ethniki Insurance, in collaboration with Piraeus Bank, is set to unveil a major advantage featuring new terms for admitting insured clients to private clinics affiliated with the Piraeus group. Generali follows with Alpha Bank and the acquisition of Euroclinic. Eurolife continues with Eurobank, alongside the major surprise of 2026, Evropi Insurance with Credia Bank. Both insurers and banks harbor high expectations for sales growth driven by credit expansion.

The surprise of 2026

Credia Bank is betting heavily on Evropi Insurance. Together, they aim to secure new business in property insurance linked to projects undertaken by Aktor Group, as well as other major investment projects. Currently, both Evropi Insurance and Credia Bank are structuring the operational model for their insurance product distribution channel. However, despite the favorable momentum, Generali is reportedly facing challenges with its agency networks, as is Ethniki Insurance following significant premium increases across its primary and secondary healthcare policies.
